The recipe calls for chicken breasts ';boiled and diced into pieces'; I've never prepared chicken before and am at a loss for how to boil chicken, and do i cut it into pieces before or after? Can anyone help me make this meal? Thanks!Need help with 'boiled chicken' for ritz chicken recipe!?
Boil the chicken first, then cut it into pieces.
To boil the chicken, put the breasts into a pot of water and bring it to a boil. Turn the heat down and let it softly boil for about 10 minutes, pull a breast out and cut into it. If it's not pink, it's done. If it's pink, put it back into the water and let it boil for a few more minutes until the meat is done.
Just as a side note - sometimes when I am making a recipe that calls for cooked chicken - I buy one of those rotisserie chickens at the grocery store, bring it home, rip the meat off and cut it up and use it for my recipe. I always do this when I'm making chicken salad. Roast chicken is better tasting than boiled. Although, it doesn't really make a lot of difference how it's cooked for the recipe your using.Need help with 'boiled chicken' for ritz chicken recipe!?
If the recipe calls for chicken breast I wouldn't boil it,but I would sautee it in a little olive oil and butter. Cut it up first,it will be easier that way, and it will cook faster.Should only take around 10-15 minutes. Will taste better also. Good luck
You can also grill them or bake them or better yet poach them in about 2 '; of water in a large frying pan When they're firm to the touch -make a fist and press down on the space between your thumb and your index finger -remove and refrigerate for about 30 minutes
Place skin side up on a cutting board
Place left hand on top of breast and cut in half horizontally. This cut requires a sharp knife
Do long cuts along the length of the breast about 1/2' apart
Using the same spacing make cuts perpendicular to the long cuts
You now have diced chicken
Edit :
Do not ever cut raw chicken because you run the very real risk of getting a foodborne illness down the road as a result of cross contamination from the raw chicken to other products and surfaces
Just poach it for about 10 -12 minutes or so
internal temp 160
Poach the chicken so that it's nice and tender. Fill a large pot with water, put the chicken you're cooking in it to make sure it will fit then pull it back out. Bring it to a boil, put in the chicken and bring the water back to a boil. Cover the pot and let it sit for an hour. Take the chicken out, let it cool, and then pull off the meat and cut it into pieces.
If you want to be fancier, put some salt into the water along with other things to flavor it, like a bay leaf, onions, herbs, etc.
if you want to cook it faster cut the chicken before you put in boiling water but if you are not in a time crunch boil the chicken breast whole until there is no pink left.
